How It All Began
“How can we know who we are and where we are going if we don't know anything about where we have come from and what we have been through, the courage shown, the costs paid, to be where we are?”
― David McCullough
This blog is dedicated to the Gods and Goddesses of the North so that other families, like my own, who are following our Heathen path may find encouragement and resources that I was unable to find for my own family. You have heard Their names in Norse mythology as well as traditional Finnish Paganism , those stories which are left from the recording of our theology from many ages past. While these recordings are valuable, it is most important to cultivate a personal relationship with the Godanum Themselves in order to fully understand the holiness and value of our tradition as its regrowth surges in the modern era.
Raised as a fundamentalist Christian in the Bible belt, it has been quite a journey in reaching this Pagan path.
When I reached adulthood, I had previously had much exposure to alternative healing modalities since my teen years, including many different forms of spiritual - or energy - medicine. These modalities proved themselves time and again to be highly effective in achieving different levels of well-being as needed, and with an increased practice in meditation and direct spiritual experience I became much more "mystic" than one following a certain set of dogmas. Church really became rather impossible.
Through several years of study, I came through many logical barriers to the conclusion that Truth cannot be truth if one presupposes a certain set of core beliefs at the outset. When I finally let go of the core belief that "Jesus has to be at the epicenter" and cried out to God - or the supreme Truth of the Universe - to show me the way, the Gods and Goddesses of the North began appearing to me in very real ways in my spiritual journey.
Although it is nothing like the answer(s) I expected to get from my prayers of earnest objectivity I, with grateful and extremely humbled heart, accepted Their revelations and only continue to be amazed today by Their holiness, guidance, and presence here with us.
I have seen more miracles in a few years of following the Godanum than I have seen in my prior three decades of human existence. This path encompasses the spirituality, healing, and core set of beliefs in which I already believed but had never found evidenced before my eyes. All I pray is that I can offer some good back for that which I can never repay to the Godanum as well as those who have gone before and risked everything to protect our sacred ways.
All praise to the Gods and Goddesses, and eternal thanks to my teacher for challenging me logically and spiritually in a way that allowed me to be opened to this sacred path.
