Well, I'm about a month late in posting anything about Freyfaxi. This is the First Harvest Feast where we honor our Harvest God, Frey. It is celebrated at the beginning of August, and we particularly focus on breads, pastries, etc. from the harvest of grains from the fields as is the tradition. We had a lovely feast with our kindred on August 1st to celebrate this important point on the
Wheel of the Year!
I asked my husband to make a woodburning piece of the Green Man, one of the names by which we know Frey, and he blew it out of the park with this gorgeous multi-toned and textured piece! I am so blessed and very proud to display this in our home in honor of our Harvest God.
I also crafted a new sun tea recipe just for the First Harvest season to showcase the some of the grains, fruits, and field herbs plentiful at this time.
First Harvest Tea
*use organic and local ingredients as much as possible
for honoring the earth as well as your own health*
1 gallon filtered or spring water
1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup frozen or fresh blue- or black- berries
1/2 cup lemon balm
1/4 cup honey
1/8 cup green tea
(1/8 cup meadowsweet)
Prepare all ingredients in a gallon glass jar and allow it to sit on the earth in the sun for at least 3 to 6 hrs (you probably don't want to leave it more than 8ish hours).
This tea is meant only for enjoyment and not therapeutic usage, but I wanted to include a note so that you can all decide to try the full recipe or adapt it with full knowledge of one of meadowsweet's components:
Please do your own research on meadowsweet's salicylic acid content and properties before deciding whether or not this ingredient is right for you.
Simply omit the meadowsweet or replace with an herb you deem appropriate if you decide it is not an herb you should imbibe.
